Analysis of three other magazines aimed at teenagers. 16-19

Empire Film Maazine.

The Empire magazine is a british film magazine published monthly by Emap consumer media. It has been running since 1989. It is the best selling film magazine in Britain outselling its competition Total film magazine. The magazine is distributed to the United Kingdom, Turkey and Australia and is edited by Mark Dinning.

The main purpose of the magazine is to print reviews of the latest films and create a list of the top ten films, this helps people who are regular film goers to pick out the films they are most interested in, and can read the reviews as to what some films are about and what other people thought of them which can help influence them when they are making their decision. The magazine also features some reviews of new console games, DVD's and new CD's and Albums. This suggests that the age range of the magazine is teenagers aged from around 16-19 as this age group go and see films at cinema with their friends and they are the age group who would also buy console games and CD's The content of the magazine suggests the age range.

The magazine has one of the transformers on the front cover. Again this figure stands out to film fans and is instantly recognisable and associated with the film 'The Transformers'. This then attracts the audience to purchase the magazine. The blue background look cool, and almost futeristic, this fits in well with the futeristic car-turning-robot figure which is on the front. The red title on the front stands out against the icy blue background. The title of the main film which is on the front cover is also in the bright red colour which stands out. This is directly underneath the picture of the transformer robot which shows people who do not know that the main picture on the front is the film called 'Transformers' to people who see the picture and might be interested in reading more and maybe even seeing the film. Some of the big names on the front cover such as 'Will Smith' and 'Beyonce' are also done in bold and highlighted in red so that they stand out as the big celebrity names help to attract people to purchase the magazine so that they can see what films their favourite celebrities are in. Or if they know a celebrity whose films they like they may be influenced to read about what they are up to now and what their next films are like.

The Manchester United magazine.

This magazine is published by the Manchester United F.C. The magazine content is surrounded around the latest club news, football results, fixtures, latest player news, League standings, match reviews, the MUFC shop where you can purchase official merchandise and pictures of the players. The magazine is targeted towards Manchester United fans.

Using a picture of Christiano Ronaldo on the front cover, he is an instantly recognisable player and anyone who see's this picture will instantly know that this magazine is targeted towards football, this will help them work out if this magazine appeals to them.
This type of layout would also be a great inspiration for the college magazine which i have been told to produce, as it has to include a main figure, eg, in this case it would be christiano ronaldo. The title at the top and then all of the other smaller pictures and stories around the main feature. This magazine is released monthly and the cost is £3.95. The main masthead is filled in red, this suggests its red due to the fact that this is the teams main colours. Below the main picture of Christiano Ronaldo is a smaller picture of him playing football in his manchester united kit. This may show the different lifestyles and personalities he has on and off the pitch, this would also suggest the mian interview with the star which is displayed on the front page. This may be to suggest that people purchase the magazine to get to know the real christiano ronaldo when he's off the pitch and living his life. It would also again attract Manchester United fans as they would like to get to know their hero.

The magazine also features a shopping page, where the fans and supporters can buy the clubs official merchandise and clothes directly from the club itself. All of the money which is made from this would probably pay for the production of the magazine. It uses it's own media product to increase sales for the club, they are advertising themselves in their own magazine.

Kerrang Magazine.

This magazine is targeted primarily around music lovers and teenagers, featuring all of the bands and artists whom target their music towards teenagers.

This magazine has again chosen to place a picture of a main celebrity figure which attracts people and draws them in. This figure is instantly recognisable to anyone who likes music and this influences them topurchase the magazine. Also if they are a fan of the main figure than this would encourage them to purchase the magazine. The main title which is placed across the main picture is coloured in white and done inbold so that it stands out and is eye catching. the producers have made it so that it is the first thing your eyes are drawn to.

They have also chosen to place smaller pictures around the magazine, these are the other stories included in the magazine and the brief headline which accompanies each picture gives the reader a brief introduction as to what the main story surrounding these artists is going to be about. They have also included a smaller headline running underneath the main story. This is because the two are connected, the small headline is still important, however not as interesting or as exciting as the main headline and so it is placed underneath, however because both of the stories are linked they are kept close together.
