Music magazine analysis

Firstly for my music magazine i had to decide what the layout of the magazine was going to be like, after having researched different music magazines such as NME and Kerrang i an idea what i wanted my music magazine front cover to look like. I had to decide the name of my magazine. I had two ideas which i thought both worked well and appealed to me, these where: Tunes and Chart Tracker. I finally decided on chart tracker. I decided that i would use the welton urban font as i thought it linked in with the streets where the audience and people live and i thought it worked well and i also thought that it looked well. I choose to have the background colour of my magazine as being black i thought this colour worked well with the bright blue font of the main title of my magazine. After looking at the diferent types of magazines i also discovered that many of the magazines all had dark, if not black backgrounds with a light coloured font and text to contrast with this an stand out.

I have choosen to place my main picture in the centre of the front page. With my picture being at the centre it is straight away visable and peoples eyes and attention is drawn straight to it. The main picture shows the main artist standing against a brick wall down an alleyway, this again highlights the streets and an urban type of environment, this would linkin with the urban style of font which i have used for the main title of my magazine.

I have also choosen to have a ox in the bottom right corner which is for the competition. I have choosen to display a collection of the top albums currently in the charts and placed the picture in a box with the headline saying your chance to win all of these. Thi straight away appeals to the audience of music lovers as they can see the collection of albums which are in the charts and they have a chance to win all of them for free. This would also encourage people to buy the next issue of the magazine to see what you can win in the next competition and if they have entred the curent competition they will buy the next issue to find out if they have won.

I have also choosen to add to columns running along the top and bottom of the page. After looking at many different issues of NME i discovered that it employed this technique it many of its issues. I have chosen to fill the bars with a brighter colour so that they stand out against the dark background, it is imprtant that people see this as it is advertising what is going to be in the next issue. The column at the top alerts the audience and draws their attention to the free gift inside this magazine. Music lovers who read this magazine will instantly like the prospect of a free CD, freebies in the magazine would also encourage people to purchase further issues for the free gifts which they get inside.

The column at the bottom of the magazine lists just a few of the main stories covered in the magazine, i have choosen to put the main stories on the front cover as these stories are more recognisable to the audience and if they notice these big stories are covered inside the magazine tthey may be tempted to purchase the magazine.
