Foundation Portfolio Main Task

For the foundation portfolio main task we have to produce a new music magazine. For this we have to create the front cover of the new music magazine, the contents page and a double page spread. All of this has to also include four origninal images. For the first excercise of this magazine i am goingto look at how the media key concepts can be applied to producing a new music magazine using the acronym LIIAR.

Language: When producing my front cover of my new music magazine i am going to use bold and bright text. This helps the text stand out and is eye-catching, this will help to draw in the audiences attention. I will also use a main picture like which i had seen whilst researching NME music magazines. I will make my picture big and stand out. The main picture on the front of the magazine is one of the main things which my audience will look at and so i am going to make it big and bold so that it stands out.

Institution: This is a magazine publisher such as NME or IPC. They produce and distribute the magazines.

IPC, are one of the main and leading publishers in the UK. One of their main successes is the music magazine NME. IPC also have a wide range of magazines which they distribute to the audiences all across the country.

EMAP. Again this is another one of the main and biggest media publishers. EMAP publishes many magazines like; Smash Hits, Kerrang, Q and Mojo. This means that they have a wider range of music genres that they can offer to their audiences.

Ideology: The ideology behind my music magazine is similar to the ideology behind NME. I am going to find and promote unsigned artists that have not yet made it big in the music industry.
This will let my audiences know what up and coming bands are out there and gives them an insight in what bands they are going to be interested in so that they can listen to some of their CDs, check out their tours or gigs etc.
Audience:

Representation: I Believe my magazine is aimed more around males aged between 14-30, who are interested or like the indie music genre and like the type of bands which produce this type of music as that is what my magazine is going to focus on. I think my magazine will also attract mostly younger people as they have grown up with this type of music and like it, older people tend not to like this type of music and therefore i believe the younger age range are going to be more interested in my magazine.
